Day 1: Arrival in Colombo
After you arrive in Colombo in the morning, spend the rest of your day enjoying some of the key highlights of the capital. You can explore places such as Galle face green, independence square and Gangaramaya temple.Spend your evening hours shopping at massive malls like one galle face or the colombo city centre and enjoy the local cousines. The city of Colomb is a vibrant city with the latest facilities and modern hotels to make your stay comfortable.
Day 2: Kandy
Spending a day in the historical city of Kandy would be a rewarding experience! It is a 3 hour journey from Colombo. Spend the morning by visiting the Temple of the tooth relic.and enjoy the serene atmosphere. Take a stroll along the Kandy Lake located nearby after you visit the temple, take the chance to mingle with the local community. Be fascinated by the beauty of nature by visiting the Peradeniya Botanical garden and enjoy some time among nature. The evening hours could be spent watching cultural shows and indulging yourself in delicious local cousines.
Day 3: Sigiriya
After your visit to the beautiful city of Kandy, take a trip to the historical rock fortress located about 89 km from Kandy. It is always best to start climbing the rock fortress early in the morning. Here you will learn and observe about the ancient painting ponds and the legacy left many years ago. Exploring the beautiful gardens and the panoramic view from the top would be an incredible experience. You can also stop by the Sigiriya museum to observe ancient artefacts. Late hours of the day can be spent on a tour around the city.
Day 4: Dambulla
Dambulla is located closest to Sigiriya and also known to hold a lot of historical values. At Dambulla exploring the Dambulla cave temple is a must. This sacred place is considered to be a Unesco world heritage. The temple consists of five caves with Buddha statues and ancient frescos. Observe the unique artwork and enjoy the peaceful serene environment. A climb to the top would provide you with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes.
Visit the local markets in the evening hours and experience a vibrant atmosphere. Here you will be able to find fresh fruits, vegetables and spices. Make sure to spoil your taste buds the delicious traditional meals that are freshly prepared,
Day 5: Nuwara Eliya
The beautiful city of Nuwara Eliya also referred to as Little England is a charming city located in the hill country. The climate here is cold therefore it’s best to wear warm clothes that can help keep you warm from the weather. The city consists of stunning tea plantations, and olden colonial architecture.
If you are interested in learning about the tea production in Sri Lanka pay a visit to the nearest tea factory such as the Pedro Tea Estate. Learn about the tea making process and indulge yourself in a tasting session of different flavours of freshly made tea.
Latter part of the day can be spent among nature at the Hakgala Botanical Gardens. The beautiful array of flowers including orchids and roses would be a spectacular sight to enjoy. Gregory lake is also a vibrant place to enjoy and relax. Here you can take relaxing strolls and go on boat rides to explore the lake. If you are interested in watching horse racing, visit the race course and it’s ideal for a walk as well. This picturesque destination has plenty to offer its visitors from history to nature.
Day 6: Ella
The beautiful town of Ella is located in the highlands of Sri Lanka. This stunning town consists of beautiful hiking trails and lush green tea plantations. Take a trek to Little Adam’s Peak which would take you about 2 hours and enjoy the surrounding views of valleys and misty hills. The famous Nine Arches Bridge is also located here and is a short distance away from Adam’s Peak. Take the time to explore this incredible architecture. If you are lucky enough you can catch the glimpse of the train crossing the bridge
The beautiful town of Ella offers comfortable and luxurious hotels for your stay. With breathtaking views and adventurous activities among nature. If you are not tired for another hike Ella rock offers stunning views as well. It is a more changeling hike compared to Adam’s Peak and would take you about 3 to 4 hours. Cosy comfortable cafes are available in the town of Ella. Spend the cold evening dining and trying out unique meals that would leave your taste buds wanting for more. If you have more time to spare Ravana Falls is also famous among tourists due to its natural beauty among the mountains.
Day 7: Colombo
We have now come to the end of our journey. Returning back to Colombo from Ella would be a long trip but the surrounding views and beauty can be enjoyed along the way. Give the famous Ella train ride a try and the stunning views along the way would be a moment never to be forgotten. Once you reach Colombo, if you have time to spare, relax among the sandy beaches to end the beautiful vacation. The small island of Sri Lanka has so much to offer its travellers.
