About the Temple of the Tooth Relic
Temple of the Tooth Relic is one of the most visited worship temples in Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is also famous for Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, and Sri Dalada Maligawa.
- In 1988, it was declared a ‘’World Heritage Site’ by UNESCO.
- In 1707 – 1739, King Sri Veera Parakrama Narendrasinghe constructed this temple.
- In 1798 – 1815, it was renovated by King Keerthi Sri Rajasinghe
- Octagonal Pavilion or Paththirippuwa was created by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe.
Gautama Buddha’s left tooth was cherished as sacred by the Buddhist district and became a religious shrine. The public could not see the tooth as it is secured under the supervision of Buddhist monks in the complex with two-tale shrine and packet with lotuses. In the solid gold lotus flower, the tooth lies with a sequence of jeweled and gold caskets. Each summer, this is displayed at the festival.
In the old times, having the relic was meant to be get the governance of the country, and the Kandy was the final capital of the Sinhalese Kings and proclaimed as a conclusive resting place of the tooth.

The Temple of the Tooth Relic is located in Kandy, Sri Lanka Royal Palace Complex.
Entrance Fee
LKR 1500 is the entrance expenditure for the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Countries. LKR 2,000 is the entrance cost for all the other countries.
In the Temple of the Tooth Relic, you can get the entry ticket through the machines that are appointed at the Temple of the Tooth Relic.
Opening Time
The opening hours of the temple of the Tooth Relic are from 5:30 AM to 8:00 PM. (+0530 GMT).
The Ritual Service times are:
- 5.30 a.m. to 7.00 a.m. (for the early period of service)
- 9.30 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. (for middle period of service)
- 6.30 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. (for the evening period of service).
