About Yapahuwa Rock Fortress

About History
- From 1272 to 1284, the fortress and palace were made by King Buvanekabahu.
- In the thirteenth century (1273–1284), Yapahuwa administered the capital of Sri Lanka.
- In early times this place belonged to a Buddhist monastery, on the top of the rock, you will discover the rock cave and shelters used by Buddhist monks, a Bodhi tree compartment, and remains of a stupa.
Some things you should know before visiting Yapahuwa Rock Fortress.
- Bringing your water bottles, helps you get over the hydration on the exhausting journey.
- You can park inside if the place is less crowded, but if you find the more public you have to park outside of the temple.
- If you want to experience climbing from the rock, kindly make sure you are physically fit and do not have any severe medical conditions.
- Wear comfortable shoes so that you will not have any difficulty walking in stony areas.
- You will find attractive views while stepping on the stairs but also the monkeys, try to save yourself from them.
- The climb will exhaust you so take some rest before climbing.
- Do not panic or rush while stepping the stairs if you face any difficulty, as it is going to be risky.
Location
Yapahuwa Rock Fortress is located in the northwest part of Sri Lanka. It takes 2.5 hours from Kandy.
Entrance Fee
The Entrance is free for residents and locals but for foreigners, they charge 2000 LKR.
